A: Good morning! Thanks for calling the Community Makerspace. My name's Tomas. How can I help you today? B: Hi Tomas! I'm Amara. I'm calling to sign up for a membership. I want to work on some woodcraft projects. Can we set that up? A: Absolutely! I can create your account right now. First, let's get your name and contact details. I've got your first name as Amara. How do you spell your surname? B: It's Gbeho. That's G-B-E-H-O. And my contact phone number is 07700 900542. A: Let me just check that number... 07700 900541? B: Oh, actually, it ends in 42, not 41. I changed it last month and I always get the last digit mixed up! Now, which membership option should I choose? I want enough evening hours. A: For evenings, our Hobbyist tier is definitely the best fit. And when would you like to start? We can do today, October the 1st, or any other date. B: Well, I'm going to be away for a couple of weeks at the start of the month. So instead of the 1st, could we make the start date the 14th October? Also, I heard there's an induction session. A: October the 14th it is. Yes, for safety reasons, all new members are required to complete a safety induction before booking any workshop space, though our general tools induction is optional. We also have excellent transport links: you can park opposite the train station or next to the public library, but we actually have our own dedicated car park right behind the main building, which is free for members. B: A safety induction sounds sensible, let's book that. And a free car park behind the main building is perfect. What kind of perks do I get with the Hobbyist membership? Do I get a storage locker? A: Storage lockers actually carry a monthly fee, and safety goggles cost a pound to rent, but you'll receive a free welcome pack containing project guides. Oh, and keep in mind our hours. The main workshop is closed on Monday mornings. We used to do staff training then, and we considered deep cleaning, but now we close then specifically for equipment maintenance. But if you book on weekday afternoons, we offer a 20% discount on workshop fees—we used to do 15% last year, but we increased it. B: A free welcome pack is great, and a 20% discount on weekday afternoons is amazing! Is there anything special I need to bring for my first practical session? A: Yes! We provide your membership card when you arrive, and we supply dust masks and notebooks. However, you must wear closed-toe shoes—sandals aren't allowed—and you need to bring your own measuring tape, as we don't supply those individually. B: Got it! Closed-toe shoes and a measuring tape. I'll make sure to pack those. Thanks for all your help, Tomas! See you on the 14th! [Q1] Surname: ________

Hello everyone, and welcome to your orientation session here at the Greenfield Community Workshop. I’m Tomas, the facility coordinator. I’ll give you a quick run-down of the layout before we discuss the booking rules. Let's start with where things are. If you look at your floor plans, we are currently standing in the entry lobby. Right, as you walk in through the main entrance, the first room you see immediately on your left is our Design Studio. That's where we house the computers and 3D printers. Moving further into the building, if you look over at the far back-left corner, there's a large open workspace. Some people assume we'd put the Electronics Lab there, but actually, that spacious area is our Woodworking Zone, where all the heavy machinery and benches are. Now, on the right side of the building, just behind our reception desk, you'll see a smaller room. We originally planned this as a staff kitchenette, but we decided to use it as the Electronics Lab instead, so you can do soldering and wiring there. Further down, tucked in the corner behind the main stairs and right next to the emergency exit, is an alcove. We considered putting the first aid station there, but we realized it's the perfect spot for our Safety Equipment Locker, so please look there for spare helmets and gloves. Finally, if you look at the back of the building, there is a narrow space right next to the back door. We'd originally designated this for materials storage, but to comply with fire regulations, we changed our mind and it's now our Waste Sorting Area. Now, let’s talk about how to use the hub. If you want to book a workbench, we used to require 24 hours' notice, but now you can just book online anytime, provided you have completed our introductory safety course. As for our tools, hand tools must remain on-site at all times, unlike power tools, which can actually be hired for home projects. We don't charge any deposit for hand tools, but please return them to the racks ten minutes before our five o'clock closing time. Now, some specialized machinery, like our high-speed laser cutter, has stricter rules. You aren't allowed to use it alone, even if you've watched the online tutorial; you must only operate it when a certified supervisor is standing with you, though there's no extra fee for this. Also, if you're working on a multi-day project, please don't leave your unfinished items on the workbenches overnight, even with a 'do not touch' note. You don't have to lug them home, though—just write your name on a tag and store them on the designated shelves. Oh, and if you need extra supplies, we have a vending machine near the door. Don't worry about buying wood glue, as that's provided free at the tables, and timber offcuts in the scrap bin are also free. We don't sell protective eyewear there either, so you'll need to bring your own goggles. However, the vending machine does stock sandpaper, which is extremely handy, and you can also buy replacement drill bits there if you happen to snap one while working.

returning the digital pH probes
A: Hi Sofia, glad we could meet up to sort out our fieldwork plan for the Valley Reserve next week. We really need to finalize our sampling methods and who's doing what. B: Absolutely, Tomas. I was looking at the two main sites. Site A is near the stream, and Site B is further up the slope. I thought we could use systematic sampling for both, you know, setting up a transect line. A: Mmm, that makes sense for the slope because there's a clear gradient. But near the stream, the vegetation is so patchy. I think random sampling using a grid would actually give us a more representative soil set. What do you think? B: Oh, you're right. If we just did a line there, we might miss the clay patches entirely. Okay, so random sampling for the stream area, and systematic for the slope. I'll write that down. A: Great. Now, what about the soil testing kits? We need to measure pH and moisture levels. I can borrow the digital pH probes from the lab technician on Monday morning. B: Wait, didn't Dr. Amara say the digital ones are being calibrated next week? Ah, no, that was the moisture meters. Yes, the pH probes are free, but we have to return them by Wednesday afternoon. No, sorry, my mistake—they need them back by Tuesday at noon, because the first-year class has a practical session then. A: Ah, that's a tight squeeze. We're going out on Monday. If we have to get them back by Tuesday midday, I'd better clean them and hand them in as soon as we get back on Monday evening. I don't mind doing that. B: That would be a lifesaver. I can take responsibility for compiling the raw data into our shared spreadsheet on Tuesday morning, then. That way, we both share the administrative load. A: Perfect. Now, we also need to decide how to measure the soil compaction. I read about two methods: the simple penetration test using a metal rod, or the core cylinder method where we actually extract a known volume of soil and weigh it later. B: The core cylinder method is definitely more accurate, but it takes ages to dry the samples in the oven. Since we only have a week to submit the draft, maybe the penetration test is better, even if it's less precise? A: Actually, the lab has a high-speed drying oven now—it only takes three hours instead of twenty-four. So I reckon we should go with the cylinder method. It'll make our analysis much more robust, and the tutor will prefer that. B: Oh, really? I didn't know they upgraded the oven. In that case, let's absolutely do the cylinder method. I can carry the heavy coring tool if you don't mind carrying the soil sample bags—they get quite heavy when wet. A: Deal. I've got a sturdy backpack for those. Oh, one more thing: we need to get permission from the reserve warden. I drafted an email to him, but I wasn't sure if we need to show our risk assessment first. B: Yes, the department policy says we must attach the signed risk assessment to any permission requests. I've already filled out the safety form, so if you send me your draft email, I'll merge them and send it off today. A: Excellent. I'll email you the draft right now. And oh, we also need to bring the physical maps of the reserve. I printed some out, but they got wet last time. I'll laminate them this time. B: Good idea. And don't forget we need to wear high-visibility vests. The department has them in the locker, but we have to bring our own sturdy boots, obviously. A: Yes, I'll grab the vests when I get the pH probes on Monday morning. And I'll bring the laminated maps. B: Perfect. Let's get to work! [Q21] returning the digital pH probes

How many participants actually took part in Dr. Tomas Vance's smart garment study?
Good morning, everyone. Today we're exploring the intersection of wearable technology and psychological well-being, focusing on a fascinating study led by Dr. Tomas Vance on smart garments. Now, when we think of smart clothing, we often picture bulky fitness trackers, but his team developed a lightweight undershirt woven with microscopic conductive silver fibers to monitor physiological stress indicators. Initially, the researchers planned to recruit 150 volunteers to test these shirts—actually, let me correct myself, they hoped for 150 but only managed to secure 115 participants due to budget constraints, though this was still a statistically significant sample. So, what exactly did they measure? Well, while most wearable tech focus exclusively on heart rate variability, Tomas’s study prioritized changes in breathing patterns, as shallow respiration is a much faster indicator of acute anxiety. The participants were asked to wear the undershirts while performing three demanding tasks: a difficult math test, an unexpected interview, and a public presentation. Interestingly, the data revealed that during the public presentation, participants' stress levels didn't peak during the actual speaking, but rather in the two minutes before they stepped onto the stage. This suggests that anticipatory anxiety is actually more physiologically taxing than active performance, a finding that could reshape how we prepare individuals for high-pressure careers. Now, the team faced several technical hurdles, most notably the issue of signal interference caused by the wearer's sudden physical movements, which they solved not by altering the fabric, but by developing a new filtering algorithm. Looking ahead, Dr. Vance is keen to adapt this technology for specific user groups, though there are different challenges for each. For instance, for emergency first responders, the primary focus is on durability, ensuring the fibers don't degrade under extreme heat or physical strain. For elderly patients in home care, the priority is real-time cloud integration so that healthcare providers receive instant alerts if vital signs drop. For professional athletes, however, the main goal is aerodynamic comfort, ensuring the material doesn't create drag or restrict movement. And finally, for office workers, the design must prioritize inconspicuous styling, allowing the garment to be worn under standard business attire without being noticeable. [Q31] How many participants actually took part in Dr. Tomas Vance's smart garment study?
