It was a cold, gray day by the pond. The three little ducks had not eaten since morning.

池のほとりの、寒くてどんよりとした日でした。3羽の小鴨たちは朝から何も食べていませんでした。

"I am so hungry! But we have no food. Bubbles, do you have anything?" says Gaga.

「お腹が空いたよ！でも食べ物がないんだ。Bubbles、何か持ってる？」Gagaが言いました。

"I only have one carrot. That is not enough for all of us," says Bubbles.

「人参が一本しかありません。これでは私たち全員には足りません」とBubblesは言いました。

Everyone had only a little bit of food. Not enough for a meal. But Loopy had an idea.

誰もがほんの少しの食べ物しか持っていませんでした。一食分には足りません。でも、Loopyにいい考えがありました。

"I know! I will make pond soup! All I need is a big pot, some water, and... this stone!" says Loopy.

「わかった！池のスープを作るよ！必要なのは大きな鍋と、お水、それから……この石だけ！」Loopyは言いました。

"A stone? You cannot make soup from a stone! That is silly!" says Gaga.

「石？石でスープなんて作れないよ！そんなの馬鹿げてる！」とGagaは言いました。

"Yes, I can! Stone soup is the most delicious soup in the world. Just watch," says Loopy.

「ええ、できるわ！石のスープは世界で一番おいしいスープなの。見ててね」とLoopyは言いました。

Loopy put the pot over a small fire. The water began to bubble. Bubble, bubble, bubble.

Loopyは鍋を弱火にかけました。水が泡立ち始めました。プクプク、プクプク、プクプク。

Loopy stirred the pot and tasted the water.

Loopyは鍋をかき混ぜ、水の味を見ました。

"Mmm, it is good. But it would be even better with a carrot."

うーん、おいしい。でも、人参を入れたらもっと良くなるだろうな。

"I have a carrot! Here you go, Loopy!" says Bubbles.

「人参なら一本あるよ！はいどうぞ、Loopy！」Bubblesが言いました。

Loopy stirred and tasted again.

"Now it is even better! But it would be perfect with an onion."

"Well... I do have one onion at home. Let me get it!" says Gaga.

「うーん……確かに家に玉ねぎが1個あるわ。取ってくる！」とGagaは言いました。

Gaga dropped the onion into the pot. The soup began to smell wonderful.

Gagaは玉ねぎを鍋に入れました。スープがいい匂いになり始めました。
