Gray Areas on Google Maps.

Google Maps is a great tool.

It helps us get around places as well as see them from high above.

Those images come from machines in space and planes in the air.

However, in some places, something strange happens when you zoom in really close.

You can see some gray areas.

They aren't very clear and some just appear to be blank.

These gray areas appear for different reasons.

Sometimes, they show up on purpose.

Some people want to keep military bases and important government places secret.

That protects them and keeps other people away.
