Once upon a time, there were three little ducks who lived with their mother by a big, blue pond.

One sunny morning, Mother Duck had something important to say.

"My dear children, you are all grown up now. It is time for you to build your own nests," says Mother Duck.

The three little ducks were very excited. Their names were Gaga, Bubbles, and Loopy.

Gaga was the first little duck. He loved to play all day long.

"I will build my nest with straw. It is easy and fast!" says Gaga.

So Gaga picked up some straw from the field. He put the straw together very quickly. In just one hour, his nest was done.

"Finished! Now I can go swimming!" says Gaga.

And off he went to the pond. Splash!

Bubbles was the second little duck. She liked to sing and dance.

"I will build my nest with sticks. It is not too hard," says Bubbles.

So Bubbles collected sticks from under the trees. She put the sticks together, one by one. By lunchtime, her nest was done.

"Wonderful! Now I can go play with Gaga!" says Bubbles.

And off she went to the pond. Splash, splash!

Loopy was the third little duck. He was a little clumsy, but he always tried his best.

"I will build my nest with bricks. It will take a long time, but it will be very strong," says Loopy.

"Bricks? That is too much work, Loopy!" says Gaga.

But Loopy did not listen. He carried the bricks one by one. He worked all morning. He worked all afternoon. He even worked after dinner, under the moonlight.

Finally, after three days, his nest was done. It had strong walls, a warm roof, and a little door that locked from the inside.

"It is not pretty, but it is safe," says Loopy.

Now, in the dark forest near the pond, there lived a sneaky fox. Everyone called him Mr. Red, because of his bright red fur.

Mr. Red was always hungry. He loved to eat eggs, and he loved to eat ducks even more.

One cold evening, Mr. Red smelled something delicious. He followed his nose — sniff, sniff, sniff — all the way to Gaga's straw nest.
