The UK medicines regulator has given approval for Wegovy weight-loss pills to be sold to patients.

This is the first weight-loss tablet of its kind to receive regulation approval in the country.

The pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk manufactures the drug, which contains a substance called semaglutide.

The UK has become the third country in the world to approve these pills, after the United States and the United Arab Emirates.

Emil Kongshøj Larsen, a senior leader at Novo Nordisk, called it a landmark approval.

He said that the company hopes this decision will help more people in the UK get access to obesity care.

He also noted that the UK is the first European country to approve the Wegovy pill, which is an important step for health policy in the region.

The pills have been approved for adults who have obesity, which means a body mass index of 30 or higher.

They are also approved for overweight adults with a body mass index between 27 and 30, if they have at least one health condition related to their weight.

Clinical trials showed that patients who took the highest dose lost between 14 and 17 percent of their body weight after about 64 weeks of treatment.

However, the pills will not be available on the National Health Service right away.

They still need to be approved by another health organization before the NHS can offer them.

Because of this, patients who want to take the pills will need to get a private prescription first.

The price has not been announced yet, but many patients hope the pills will be cheaper than the Wegovy injections.

Currently, a private prescription for Wegovy injections costs between 90 and 300 pounds per month, depending on the dose.
