Anthropic, the company behind the AI assistant Claude, has started to localize its pricing in India.

India is the biggest market for Claude outside the United States.

The company now shows prices in Indian rupees for some users on its website and mobile apps.

This move comes as global AI companies are trying harder to attract users in the world's most populous country.

However, Anthropic has not yet added support for the Unified Payments Interface, which is India's most popular payment system.

Users still need to pay by credit card or through Apple and Google app store billing.

This is different from OpenAI, which launched rupee pricing for ChatGPT in August and included UPI support from the start.

Many Claude users in India have wanted rupee pricing for a long time because paying in dollars caused extra costs from currency conversion.

According to Anthropic, India accounts for 5.8 percent of all Claude usage worldwide.

This makes India the second-largest market for the AI service after the United States.

The new pricing shows that Claude Pro costs around 2,000 rupees per month in India when billed annually.

In the United States, the same plan costs 17 dollars a month.

Claude Max starts at about 11,999 rupees per month in India, compared with 100 dollars in the United States.
