Clinical trials of immunotherapy have surged dramatically over the past decade, signalling a transformative era in medical science.

Between 2006 and 2016, a global registry documented roughly 1,257 such trials, yet that figure soared to 4,591 in the subsequent ten years.

Researchers have increasingly harnessed the body's own defence mechanisms to develop powerful treatments for a wide array of conditions.

While cancer treatment remains at the forefront, investigators are now targeting infections, allergies, brain diseases, and autoimmune disorders with equal determination.

Immunotherapy encompasses biological treatments that leverage the immune system to prevent, control, or combat diseases.

The most widely recognised form is vaccination, which trains the immune system to identify specific pathogens.

However, newer approaches go considerably further.

Some therapies amplify weakened immune responses, whereas others suppress overactive ones that have spiralled out of control.
