EN: The Present Perfect tense ('has released') is formed using 'has/have' + past participle. In news contexts, it is commonly used to report recent events or announcements where the specific time is not mentioned, emphasizing the current relevance of the action.
The company has unveiled its first electric vehicle.
EN: An appositive phrase ('the Pixel 11 Pro XL') is a noun or noun phrase placed immediately after another noun phrase ('its newest large smartphone') to rename, clarify, or provide specific details about it. It is set off by a comma here.
She met her favorite author, J.K. Rowling.
EN: In tech industry reporting, companies commonly suffix product lines with labels like 'Pro' (Professional), 'Max', or 'XL' (Extra Large) to distinguish premium or oversized screen tiers from base models. Google adopted the 'XL' naming scheme to clearly signify larger display and battery capacity.
EN: The verb 'feature' means 'to have as a prominent attribute or aspect'. In product reviews and news, it is commonly used in the present simple tense to highlight key specifications or selling points.
The new laptop features a high-resolution touch display.
EN: Compound adjectives with numbers and units (e.g., '6.8-inch') are hyphenated and use the singular form of the noun when placed before another noun to modify it.
She bought a 15-inch monitor for her home office.
EN: In tech marketing and journalism, smartphone screens are conventionally measured in inches diagonally across the display area. The acronym 'OLED' (Organic Light Emitting Diode) is often left untranslated as an internationally recognized industry standard term.
EN: Non-defining relative clause with 'where': The relative adverb 'where' is used after a comma to add extra, non-essential geographical information about the antecedent ('Europe and the United States'). It means 'and there' or 'in which places'.
The company opened a new office in Tokyo, where it hopes to attract local talent.
EN: The collocation 'compete with': The intransitive verb 'compete' commonly takes the preposition 'with' (or 'against') to denote rivals or opponents in a market or contest.
Small local shops often struggle to compete with large supermarket chains.
EN: In technology journalism, the flagship smartphone market in North America and Western Europe is largely a three-way contest among Apple, Samsung, and Google. Referencing competitors' top-tier models ('Ultra' for Samsung and 'Pro Max' for Apple) immediately frames the new device within the ultra-premium pricing category (typically exceeding $1,000 USD).
EN: The passive structure 'be priced at [amount]' is commonly used to state the cost or selling price of a product or service.
The new laptop is priced at 999 dollars.
EN: The coordinating conjunction 'and' connects two parallel prepositional structures representing prices in different regions: '[amount] in [place] and [amount] in [place]'. The verb 'is priced at' applies to both.
The book is sold for 15 euros in France and 18 dollars in Canada.
EN: In technology reporting, UK prices almost always include a 20% value-added tax (VAT), whereas US retail prices are typically quoted before local state and city sales taxes are added at checkout.
EN: Comparative degree with degree modifier: When comparing two things, you can specify the exact amount of difference by placing a measurement phrase (e.g., 'about 80 pounds') directly before the comparative adjective ('higher than').
The new laptop is 200 grams lighter than the old version.
EN: Cause-and-effect subordinate clause with Present Perfect tense: The conjunction 'because' introduces an adverbial clause of reason. The present perfect ('has increased') indicates a past action or change that directly causes and explains the current situation.
Flight tickets are more expensive because fuel costs have risen.
EN: The correlative conjunction 'either... or...' connects two grammatically equivalent choices or alternatives (in this case, two numbers: '12 or 16').
You can pay either by cash or with a credit card.
EN: The phrasal verb 'come with' is commonly used when describing products to mean 'is supplied or equipped with' specific features or accessories.
The laptop comes with a pre-installed operating system.
EN: In consumer tech reporting, 'RAM' (Random Access Memory) refers to working memory for running apps, while 'storage' refers to internal capacity for files and media. While spelled out as 'gigabytes' in formal news copy, people commonly pronounce it simply as 'gigs' (e.g., '16 gigs of RAM') in spoken everyday English.
EN: The present perfect tense (has/have + past participle) with a negative form ('has not changed') is used here to describe an action or state that extends from the past up to the present moment, emphasizing the current result.
The interface of the operating system has not changed much over the years.
EN: The adverb phrase 'not ... much' indicates a low degree or extent of change, while 'from' introduces the point of comparison or origin.
His opinion on this topic has not differed much from his earlier statements.
EN: In technology journalism, noting that a device's design 'has not changed much' is a common observation. Smartphone manufacturers often reuse chassis designs across consecutive generations to reduce production costs and reinforce brand identity, focusing instead on internal hardware upgrades.
EN: A compound direct object occurs when a single transitive verb ('has') governs two or more noun phrases joined by a coordinating conjunction ('and'). Here, 'has' governs both 'polished aluminium sides' and 'a glass back'.
The hotel room has a king-sized bed and a private balcony.
EN: Past participles (e.g., 'polished') can function as participial adjectives that modify nouns, describing a state resulting from a completed action.
She wore a vintage jacket made of distressed leather.
EN: Notice the British spelling 'aluminium' (/ˌæl.jəˈmɪn.i.əm/) used here instead of American 'aluminum' (/əˈluː.mɪ.nəm/). In tech journalism, 'camera bar' has become the signature term specifically associated with Google's Pixel design language, referring to the full-width horizontal camera visor on the rear.
EN: Comparative adjectives (lighter and smaller) followed by 'than' are used to compare differences between two entities. When modified by degree adverbs like 'slightly' or 'a bit', they describe a minor difference.
This laptop is slightly faster than the previous version.
EN: The transition word 'However' is a conjunctive adverb used to introduce a contrast to a previous statement. It is placed at the beginning of a sentence followed by a comma.
However, sales did not increase as expected.
EN: In consumer tech reporting, iterative upgrades often yield very small physical changes (a few grams or millimeters). Tech journalists frequently use 'slightly' to set realistic expectations for consumers comparing year-over-year flagships.
EN: Reported speech with a noun clause introduced by 'that'. When reporting statements in the past ('said'), the subordinate clause often undergoes backshift, changing 'will' to 'would'.
The analyst explained that consumers would appreciate the longer battery life.
EN: The prepositional phrase 'in size' functions as an adjective phrase modifying 'the difference', specifying in what aspect or dimension the difference exists.
There is a slight variation in price between the two models.
EN: In tech journalism, reviews often distinguish between on-paper specifications (like minor millimeter reductions) and real-world user perception. Stating that users 'would not notice' manages consumer expectations against marketing hype.
EN: The structure 'one of the + superlative adjective + plural noun' is used to single out one item among several that share an extreme quality. Note that the noun following 'one of the' must be in plural form (features), while the main verb agrees with 'one' (singular).
This camera is one of the most popular models on the market.
EN: Noun adjuncts (or compound nouns) occur when a noun functions like an adjective to modify another noun. Here, 'battery' acts as an attribute modifying 'life' to create the compound term 'battery life'.
Customer service is essential for online businesses.
EN: In consumer tech journalism and everyday conversation, 'battery life' is often prioritized by reviewers and buyers over raw processor speed, as real-world usability (e.g., lasting an entire day or two) directly impacts user satisfaction.
EN: The intransitive verb 'last' means to continue to exist, function, or be usable for a specified amount of time. It is often paired with duration expressions (e.g., 'last two days').
This laptop's battery can last up to ten hours on a single charge.
EN: The prepositional phrase 'between charges' is a standard tech idiom describing the battery life of a device between one charging session and the next.
My wireless earbuds can go for three days between charges.
EN: In consumer tech reviews, battery performance is commonly quantified using phrases like 'between charges' or 'screen-on time' (SOT) rather than just raw battery capacity in milliampere-hours (mAh), providing potential buyers with a practical, real-world metric.
EN: The preposition 'across' is used here to indicate spread or distribution through a diverse set of activities. It often pairs with categories to show broad coverage.
The test measures performance across various real-world tasks.
EN: Parallel structure with gerunds (-ing forms): When listing examples introduced by the preposition 'like', all items should take the same grammatical form (browsing, messaging, taking).
He enjoys outdoor hobbies like hiking, swimming, and cycling.
EN: In consumer tech and smartphone reviews, 'screen use' or 'screen-on time' (SoT) is the standard metric used to measure real-world battery endurance, referring to how long the display is continuously lit and operated by the user.
EN: The Present Perfect Continuous tense ('have been asking') is formed with 'have/has + been + verb-ing'. It emphasizes an action that started in the past and has continued repeatedly or uninterruptedly up to the present moment, often used with time expressions like 'for years'.
Customers have been complaining about the slow service for months.
EN: Reporting verbs like 'commented that' introduce a noun clause functioning as the direct object of the verb. In news reporting, 'that' can introduce reported speech, opinions, or statements made by individuals or organizations.
The manager explained that the project would be delayed by a week.
EN: In corporate and tech PR communications, citing user feedback ('users have been asking for...') is a standard framing strategy. It presents product upgrades as direct responses to consumer needs rather than purely corporate or technical decisions.
EN: The phrase 'is powered by' uses the passive voice (be + past participle) to describe what engine, processor, or energy source drives an electronic device or vehicle.
The electric car is powered by a high-capacity lithium-ion battery.
EN: The non-defining relative clause introduced by 'which' (preceded by a comma) adds extra, non-essential information about the preceding noun phrase ('Google's Tensor G6 chip').
He bought a new laptop, which handles 4K video editing effortlessly.
EN: In tech journalism, describing a processor as working well 'for everyday tasks' is subtle nuance indicating that while it smoothly handles daily apps, web browsing, and communication, it may not be top-tier for intensive gaming or high-demand performance.
EN: The linking verb 'feel' (sensory verb) is followed directly by predicate adjectives ('fast and smooth') rather than adverbs, describing the state or quality of the subject.
The new laptop feels light and responsive.
EN: When a preposition or temporal conjunction like 'when' is directly followed by actions without an explicit subject, the present participle (-ing form / gerund) is used. Here, 'opening' and 'switching' form a parallel structure connected by 'or'.
Be careful when crossing the street or riding a bicycle.
EN: In consumer tech reviews, reviewers frequently use 'smooth' to describe animations and transition fluidness (often linked to higher display refresh rates like 120Hz), distinguishing it from 'fast', which usually refers to sheer processing speed and instant app launching.
EN: The structure 'have noted that...' uses the present perfect tense combined with a noun clause (that-clause) acting as the direct object of the verb. It is commonly used in news and formal writing to report recent findings, statements, or observations made by experts or reviewers.
Several analysts have noted that the market demand is shifting toward electric vehicles.
EN: The verb 'match' means 'to equal or be as good as something else'. When negated as 'does not match', it indicates a shortfall in quality, quantity, or capability compared to a benchmark.
The hotel's service did not match our high expectations.
EN: In tech industry reporting, 'raw performance' refers to pure processing power measured in benchmark tests (like CPU/GPU clock speeds and frame rates) rather than real-world AI capabilities or battery efficiency, which are often the main focus of Google's custom chips.
EN: A defining relative clause (restrictive relative clause) starts with a relative pronoun like 'who' to identify or specify which person or group is being discussed. Here, 'who want the best frame rates' specifies exactly which gamers are being referred to.
Students who study regularly usually get better grades.
EN: The modal auxiliary verb 'should' is used to give recommendations, advice, or polite suggestions, followed by the base form of the main verb (bare infinitive).
You should check the weather before going hiking.
EN: In tech and gaming journalism, 'frame rates' (measured in frames per second, or FPS) is a critical benchmark for visual smoothness. Tech reviews often categorize target audiences (e.g., casual users vs. mobile gamers) to offer tailored purchasing advice.
