International Moon Day has drawn attention to the growing number of missions that are planned for the Moon.

Countries around the world have been developing new spacecraft and technologies to explore the lunar surface.

One of the most important upcoming missions is China's Chang'e-7, which is scheduled for launch in the second half of 2026.

The Chang'e-7 spacecraft and its Long March-5 carrier rocket have already arrived at the Wenchang launch site in Hainan Province, southern China.

Engineers are now working on the final assembly and testing of the spacecraft before the mission begins.

"This is a very exciting time for lunar exploration because we are closer than ever to understanding the Moon," said Doctor Li Wei, a senior space scientist at the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The Chang'e-7 mission will target the Moon's south pole, which is considered one of the most interesting areas for scientists.

The spacecraft will conduct environmental and resource surveys in this region.

It will also search for water ice that may exist in permanently shadowed craters.

Finding water on the Moon would be very important because it could support future human missions to the lunar surface.

In addition to searching for water, the mission will test new technologies such as precision landing and hopping exploration.

These technologies are being developed to help future spacecraft land more accurately on the Moon.

"If we can master these technologies, it will open the door for long-term lunar exploration," explained Professor Zhang Ming, a rocket engineer.

The Chang'e-7 mission has been described as a key step in China's broader plan to build a research station on the Moon.
