Doubles players have reacted with anger to new plans from the ATP Tour that would reduce tournament draws and prize money.

Under the proposed changes, doubles draws at the biggest events would be cut in half, from 32 pairs to just 16.

Smaller tournaments on the men's tour would only have eight pairs competing in the doubles event.

Prize money for doubles could also be reduced from 20 percent to 10 percent of the total amount.

Singles players would likely receive the extra money instead.

The changes were discussed at meetings this week, which has caused frustration among professional doubles players.

British doubles player Julian Cash has strongly criticised the plans.

Cash, who won the Wimbledon doubles title last year with partner Lloyd Glasspool, said the ATP was created to protect all players.

He accused the organisation of trying to kill off part of the sport.

Cash reminded people that doubles players are also members of the ATP and pay their membership fees.

Glasspool told the BBC that it was annoying to deal with this situation during Wimbledon.

He also said the ATP should do more to promote doubles tennis.

Glasspool argued that when well-known singles players compete in doubles, the crowds are always large.

He believes the real problem is that the ATP has not marketed doubles players well enough.
